The book collection, which includes more than 80.000 books, has a profoundly political-historical specialization.
As regard the acquisition, enhancement and recovery of texts, materials and documents, the collection is particularly focused on: study on contemporary history, political and philosophical thought in the end of the 19th century and 20th century, social and economic history of Italy and Europe, contemporary history of Bologna and the Region of Emilia-Romagna. Furthermore, a particular attention is paid to: sources and study on the political thought of the Italian and European Left in the 20th century, on the Italian political and social movements from the post-World War II to the present day and on the political communication and propaganda.
Among the most interesting collections, we highlight the publications on Antonio Gramsci and others written by him; the large collection of pamphlets concerning the birth of the Democratic and Socialist Italian Movement and the political and trade-union Associationism of the Italian Left; the collection of texts on policy, history and publishing which comes from Libreria Palmaverde di Roberto Roversi.
Another significant collection is la ‘collana del Canguro’ of L’Universale economica.
The catalogue of periodicals includes more than 1800 periodicals, among Italian and foreign magazines and daily newspapers of historical and philosophical-political interest, of which around 90 are current. You can find them in the Catalogo Italiano dei Periodici ACNP.
A special collection is composed of socialist periodicals of the collection Fondo Luigi Arbizzani.
The collection includes social and political photographs taken mainly from 1945 to 1980s. The photos come from local newspapers (“Il Progresso d’Italia” and “La Lotta”), from the documentary collections of the Italian Communist Party in Bologna; from Fondo Giuseppe Dozza’s collection and from Fondo Luigi Arbizzani’s collection; moreover, you can find a smaller number of photographs in the Fondo Valdo Magnani’s collection and Fondo Guido Fanti’s collection.
The collection includes around 45.000 prints.
