November 9, 2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. With the project Breaching the walls. We do need education!, Fondazione Gramsci EMili-Romagna together with the University of Bielefeld in Germany, the Institute of Contemporary History in Prague, the Municipality of Tirana, the Past/Not Past Association in Paris and the History Meeting House in Warsaw launched a reflection on the history and memory of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the events that characterized 1989, focusing primarily on the active involvement and participation of European citizens themselves.
The project officially started in September 2019 and will end in February 2021.
On this occasion, the Foundation publishes a selection of documents from its archives:
- Some ANSA photographs related to the fall of the Wall preserved in the Photographic Archive of the Bologna Provincial Federation of PCI;
- The news presented by l’Unità and Il Manifesto in the days following the fall
- The articles of the Republic of Bologna and the Corriere di Bologna published between 7 and 8 November on the occasion of the presentation of the project to the press
